Train as a Loctician + Become a Blessed Locks Affiliate
Creative, flexible self-employment opportunity
Port Coquitlam / Lower Mainland
I'm Solah, the founder of Blessed Locks, a creative hair and adornment business specializing in dreadlocks, extensions, hair wraps and wearable hair art.
I'm looking for one (or possibly two) awesome humans to personally train as locticians and to join the Blessed Locks network as a self-employed affiliates operating their own loctician business's in the Lower Mainland.
Previous dreadlock or professional hair experience is not required. I'm much more interested in finding someone who is creative, detail-oriented, naturally good with their hands, reliable, wonderful with people and genuinely excited about this kind of work.
This is not an employment position or conventional apprenticeship. It's an opportunity to develop your own flexible loctician business while benefiting from specialized training, mentorship, the Blessed Locks brand, marketing and client referrals.
What you'll learn
You'll be personally trained to:
• Create new dreadlocks
• Maintain and repair existing dreadlocks
• Provide dreadlock extension consultations
• Create dreadlock extensions
• Install dreadlock extensions
• Install and sell handcrafted Blessed Locks hair wraps and adornments
• Photograph and video before-and-after results
• Provide a warm, professional and supportive client experience
You'll eventually provide mobile appointments throughout the Lower Mainland.
Personalized training
I'll personally train you in the techniques I've developed through more than 20 years of experience as a loctician and entrepreneur.
Training is competency-based rather than based on a fixed number of hours. People learn at different speeds, so I'll work alongside you through hands-on training and supervised client experience until I'm confident you're ready to independently provide excellent service to Blessed Locks clients.
I'm specifically looking for someone who learns hands-on skills relatively quickly, has excellent attention to detail and takes real pride in their work.
Once you're established, you'll operate independently while having access to ongoing mentorship and support when needed.
$2,000 training + professional setup investment
There is a $2,000 total investment for the successful applicant to complete their training and establish themselves professionally.
Approximately $600 goes directly toward your initial business setup:
• Approximately $300 in professional tools and supplies that belong to you
• Approximately $300 in Blessed Locks merchandise inventory that you can resell to clients for additional profit
The remainder covers your personalized hands-on training, supervised experience and onboarding into the Blessed Locks affiliate network.
You'll also benefit from:
• Ongoing mentorship and support
• Association with the established Blessed Locks brand
• Client referrals through Blessed Locks
• Marketing and website presence
• Opportunities to work with existing Blessed Locks clients
• The ability to generate and develop your own clientele
• Flexible scheduling around the rest of your life
This isn't a course that anyone can simply purchase. I'm looking for one person who is genuinely a great fit. Applicants will be screened for aptitude, reliability and compatibility before the opportunity is offered.
How the affiliate relationship works
You'll operate your own independent business as a self-employed sole proprietor and Blessed Locks affiliate.
You determine your own availability and decide which client opportunities you're available to accept. There are no guaranteed hours or required shifts.
For Blessed Locks appointments, you bill and collect payment from the client directly and remit the agreed Blessed Locks share.
For clients generated through Blessed Locks, you'll generally retain 70% of the service revenue.
You'll provide your own vehicle and professional tools and be responsible for your own operating expenses, bookkeeping and taxes.
Affiliates also maintain a small working selection of Blessed Locks handmade hair wraps and adornments, purchased at affiliate pricing and resold to clients for additional profit.
When representing Blessed Locks, you'll be expected to maintain our standards for quality, professionalism, client care and brand representation while independently managing your own business and appointments.
Income potential
Your income will depend on your skill, speed, availability, client base and the types of appointments you choose to take.
Client pricing reflects your current skill, experience and working speed, and rates increase as your proficiency, speed and experience grow.
As an example, one of our current target rates is approximately $60 per service hour once you're working at a solid professional pace. At a 70% affiliate share, you'd retain approximately $42 per booked service hour, before your own business expenses, plus tips and product profits.
$60/hour is a benchmark, not a rate ceiling. As you become faster, more experienced and more established, client rates can increase accordingly.
Travel time for mobile appointments is also charged to the client.
You'll also have opportunities to earn additional profit through sales of Blessed Locks hair wraps and adornments.
There may eventually be opportunities for optional creative work, such as making hair wraps and other products. This would be paid separately by the piece.
Schedule + physical requirements
This opportunity is well suited to someone looking to build a flexible creative business and income stream.
There may initially be approximately 1–3 client appointments per week, depending on client demand and your availability. This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed or required amount of work.
Appointments vary considerably. Short appointments may take around 1.5 hours, while major transformations can sometimes require multiple full-day sittings.
The work is hands-on and can be physically demanding, so you need to be comfortable working with your hands and standing for extended periods.
Location
I'm based in Port Coquitlam and would ideally like to find someone who lives within approximately 30 minutes of me.
We'll spend considerable time working together during your initial training, and you'll continue to come by periodically for merchandise pickup, mentorship and occasional affiliate business discussions.
You'll also need a reliable vehicle for mobile appointments throughout the Lower Mainland.
If you live a little farther away but feel you're an exceptional fit, I'm still open to hearing from you.
Who I'm looking for
Technical experience isn't the most important thing to me.
Character, natural aptitude, attention to detail and enthusiasm are.
A Blessed Locks loctician is:
• Wonderful with people
• Warm, kind and comfortable connecting one-on-one with clients
• Creative and artistically inclined
• Naturally good with their hands
• Patient and highly detail-oriented
• Reliable and conscientious
• Self-motivated
• A strong communicator
• Able to follow instructions carefully during training
• Comfortable operating independently once trained
• Genuinely excited about learning and doing this work
Helpful, but not required:
• Hair or hairstyling experience
• Sewing skills
• Jewellery making, crafting or other artistic experience
• Experience with detailed hands-on work
• Social media skills
Artists, makers, hairstylists, crafty people, festival-culture lovers and people who enjoy helping others express themselves may find this work especially rewarding.
From a former Blessed Locks loctician
"Solah has taught me everything I know about being a professional loctician. She gently guided me, sharing her knowledge and expertise every step of the way. She is inspiring, motivating and incredible to work with. She has always been patient, clear, compassionate and supportive.
What truly sets Solah apart is her character and work ethic. She fosters a positive environment in the workplace, demonstrating discipline, passion and motivation in her work and balance in mind, body and spirit.
I am confident that Solah Nightstar would be a valuable asset to your learning and success in working as a loctician. She has my highest recommendation to work alongside at Blessed Locks."
- Eden, Blessed Locks loctician for 5 years
For the right person, this could grow into a beautiful little business: creative work, meaningful connections with clients, flexible scheduling and a specialized skill you can continue developing for years.
I'm not looking for someone who's simply applying for every available job.
I'm looking for someone who is ready to build a meaningful and fulfilling side-business for themselves.
Previous dreadlock experience isn't necessary. I'm much more interested in finding someone with the right natural aptitude, character and enthusiasm who is excited to learn.
If that's you, I'd love to hear from you.
